Abscisic Acid Signal Transduction.

چکیده
The plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) plays a major role in seed maturation and germination, as well as in adaptation to abiotic environmental stresses. ABA promotes stomatal closure by rapidly altering ion fluxes in guard cells. Other ABA actions involve modifications of gene expression, and the analysis of ABA-responsive promoters has revealed a diversity of potential cis-acting regulatory elements. The nature of the ABA receptor(s) remains unknown. In contrast, combined biophysical, genetic, and molecular approaches have led to considerable progress in the characterization of more downstream signaling elements. In particular, substantial evidence points to the importance of reversible protein phosphorylation and modifications of cytosolic calcium levels and pH as intermediates in ABA signal transduction. Exciting advances are being made in reassembling individual components into minimal ABA signaling cascades at the single-cell level.

IBR5, a dual-specificity phosphatase-like protein modulating auxin and abscisic acid responsiveness in Arabidopsis.
Auxin is an important plant hormone that plays significant roles in plant growth and development. Although numerous auxin-response mutants have been identified, auxin signal transduction pathways remain to be fully elucidated. We isolated ibr5 as an Arabidopsis indole-3-butyric acid-response mutant, but it also is less responsive to indole-3-acetic acid, synthetic auxins, auxin transport inhibi...
متن کاملThe GCR1, GPA1, PRN1, NF-Y signal chain mediates both blue light and abscisic acid responses in Arabidopsis.
Different classes of biotic (e.g. plant hormones) and abiotic (e.g. different wavelengths of light) signals act through specific signal transduction mechanisms to coordinate higher plant development. While a great deal of progress has been made, full signal transduction chains have not yet been described for most blue light- or abscisic acid-mediated events. Based on data derived from T-DNA ins...
متن کاملAbscisic acid coordinates nod factor and cytokinin signaling during the regulation of nodulation in Medicago truncatula.
Nodulation is tightly regulated in legumes to ensure appropriate levels of nitrogen fixation without excessive depletion of carbon reserves. This balance is maintained by intimately linking nodulation and its regulation with plant hormones. It has previously been shown that ethylene and jasmonic acid (JA) are able to regulate nodulation and Nod factor signal transduction. Here, we characterize ...
متن کاملThe slender rice mutant, with constitutively activated gibberellin signal transduction, has enhanced capacity for abscisic acid level.
The slender rice (slr1-1) mutant, carrying a lethal and recessive single mutation, has a constitutive gibberellin (GA)-response phenotype and behaves as if it were saturated with GAs [Ikeda et al. (2001) Plant Cell 13, 999]. The SLR1 gene, with sequence homology to members of the plant-specific GRAS gene family, is a mediator of the GA signal transduction process. In the slender rice, GA-induci...
متن کاملRole of Calcium in Signal Transduction Guard Cells of Commelina
The role of cytosolic Ca2+ in signal transduction in stomatal guard cells of Commelina commonis was investigated using fluorescence ratio imaging and photometry. By changing extracellular K+, extracellular Ca2+, or treatment with Br-A23187, substantive increases in cytosolic Ca2+ to over 1 micromolar accompanied stomatal closure. The increase in Ca2+ was highest in the cytoplasm around the vacu...
متن کاملChemical Genetics Reveals Negative Regulation of Abscisic Acid Signaling by a Plant Immune Response Pathway
Coordinated regulation of protection mechanisms against environmental abiotic stress and pathogen attack is essential for plant adaptation and survival. Initial abiotic stress can interfere with disease-resistance signaling [1-6]. Conversely, initial plant immune signaling may interrupt subsequent abscisic acid (ABA) signal transduction [7, 8]. However, the processes involved in this crosstalk ...
